Notanki Mela Islamabad
last week a number of theatre dramas were shown in Ialamabad, which was a part of International Urdu Conference. I got to see all the plays. I'll review each of them one by one.Ghora Aur Muhabbat (Horse and Love)
that was from UET Lahore.Very funny and well managed.everyone was good, no disturbance at all.people loved this one. one reason for its going smoothly was less crowd and less families. play was a kind of paroday of a 70's movie. No message No knowledge, No history.Just for entertainment.
Qalam Syahee Aur Manto (Pen, Ink and Manto)
An effort by NCA, Lhr. Shadow work was excellent. It was a mixture of five stories by Manto. The scenes have no sequence and no link. It failed to convey the message properly. A number of small scenes.People still appreciated the effort. Got the good picture of partition days.
Jalsa (drama or play )
By Naeem Tahir Productions Lhr. included scenes from different dramas since the first one in history of Urdu. good acting by all the actors. purposeful. Created awareness.
Qibla Nawab Sahib
By Rafee Peer Theatre, Lhr. Small play. satisfactory acting. No message. Not much entertainment. Too much disturbance due to children. all the dumb aunties came with their breast fed children..papa, mama, sho sho(pee),doodo(milk) hsssshhh(silence) and all that shit.
Toba Tek Singh
The greates of all by Ajooka Theatre Group, Lhr. Adapted from Manto's story. Excellent direction, excellent acting, good background music. purposeful, message oriented, thoughful.intense, emotional. i just loved it.the true soul of theatre.
NOTE: all the so called literate and modern aunties and unlces! learn some manners. u were not there to watch a third class indian movie with vulgar dances. next time better not come or leave ur childern at home or give them sleeping pills. If u dont understand the spirit of the plays or if u havent read any urdu afsana or drama all ur life this is not the place for u.let ppl with understanding to come in and see ( so much of seats and passes were wasted by ppl like u).

hmm well possibly:)
What was the Urdu Conference about? A celebration of the language, or just theatre, or what?
Meg! it was 4th International Urdu conference with ppl invited from all over the world who have some achievements as writers, journalists, poets etc. it included dramas, poetry recitation, music, dress shows, speeches and other such stuuf.
really liked the ... notice!!!! :D
This sounds as though it was a fascinating event. I've read a couple of novels set within Urdu culture and there certainly seems to be a rich tradition of poetry and drama. Unfortunately I can't understand the language otherwise these plays would really appeal.
